Self Care with TruSelf Organics

The average US woman exposes herself to over 150 different chemicals through her personal care/beauty products each day. In the United States, there are almost 13,000 chemicals used in cosmetics, and only about 10 percent have been evaluated for safety.”

It is so easy to just hop in bed at the end of a long day without going through a long self care regimen. I found it hard to get motivated to remove my make up, wash my face, apply moisturizer and whatever else is needed to not look like a mom who doesn’t get any sleep lol. But I have recently found that motivation and the answer is… fall in love with the products you are using!

For Christmas, my husband purchased me the TruSelf Organics “Ultimate Clear Skin Kit”  which has turned out to be one of my most cherished gifts I have ever received. I really had no idea how much I could love a  product line. After using it for just a few days I was already noticing a huge difference in my skins appearance and the way it felt. My sister was in town for the holidays so of course we did face masks together and she also tried out  the face wash and moisturizer. She was just as impressed as I was. She has always had issues with her skin and while I never did as a teen, I have recently been battling break outs and dry skin as an adult.

Fast forward about two weeks and I was still just as excited to wash my face as I had been when I first opened the package. I honestly look forward to my morning and nighttime routine everyday. So I wrote to the company to express how impressed I was. They were so kind and generous in their response. They offered to send me their hair care to try as well as a discount code for my readers and followers!! (which I will leave down below.)

This kit came with a face wash, moisturizer, clay mask and the cutest bamboo utensils. All of which are vegan and cruelty-free! The mission, at TruSelf, is to promote self love as well as self care. The company was started in 2013 but a yogi mama with a passion for all natural, organic beauty products. She spent a lot of time researching and studying the negative effects harmful chemicals that are put into our products have on our mind, body and soul.

Restorative Shampoo & Conditioner: If you have been following me for awhile then you will know the issues I have with my hair due to my auto immune disease. From being so malnourished my hair is thin, brittle and falls out by the handful. I am alway looking for pure and natural hair care to help in restoring my hair to even half of what it used to be. When Truself sent me this hair bundle I was not only excited but so appreciative. The ingredients lists on both products is small yet powerful and felt confident that I would love it.. and I  do! Currently Loving: Hobby Lobby

pillows-2 pillows-5 pillows-4 pillows-3

As most of you already know I am a huge supporter of small shops and  buy from them as often as I can. But when I decided it was time to stop procrastinating and finally update our living room, I knew that I was going to run into some trouble finding the exact items I wanted, in the decor style that I gravitate toward, on the budget I was working with. Pillows and Art were the two items I was most worried about as they tend to be on the pricier side. Mud cloth had been catching my eye for awhile but everything I was finding was well over $50 for each pillow and knowing that I needed at least 4 of them, I just couldn’t afford what I was looking for in the smaller shop market (even though I know the quality would have been far superior and well worth the price)

It was during a trip to Hobby Lobby late in October while picking up last minute pieces for our homemade Halloween costumes that I saw exactly what I had been searching for in their home decor section and above the pillows there it was…. that glorious 50% off sign. The wonderful thing about Hobby Lobby is that everything is half off at some point depending on the week. They rotate their sales each week  by department meaning that you can always get what you are looking for, on sale!! I find that their selection caters to so many styles.

That trip I ended up grabbing 4 pillows. I spotted 2 cactus prints that I knew were the exact pieces I needed to help fill the empty space on the wall above one of my couches but they weren’t on sale that day so I went back the following week, and picked them up. The pillows were originally $25 and I got them for just over $12. The Cactus prints were originally $20 and I got them for $10. Such a steal! Our living room is nowhere near being complete but these few items have brightened up the space and helped make it feel more like our home.

Vanilla Matcha Latte

My husband bought me a giant bag of organic green tea matcha powder for Christmas. I started making this latte as an afternoon pick me up in place of a second (or third) cup of coffee. I get the boost of energy without feeling jittery and without the caffeine headache that I would sometimes get from too much coffee. Matcha is high in anti oxidants, boosts metabolism, provides vitamin c and magnesium and is said to lower cholesterol. So I feel good about drinking this every day. Heres how I make my latte!

1 cup Almond Milk or milk of your choice

1 tsp Organic Matcha Powder

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

2-3 tbsp sweetener (sugar, honey, agave nectar, maple syrup all work great!)

img_0922matcha img_0924 img_0926 img_0939matcha img_0941 img_0942

In a small sauce pan, warm milk on low heat. Allow the milk to warm for a minute or so before adding ingredients. If you add the matcha when the milk is still cold it tends to clump more. Add your vanilla, sweeter and matcha powder then whisk.

Note: If you are using an unsweetened milk, you may want to add more sweeter. If you are using something like a sweetened vanilla almond milk, 2 tbsps should be enough.

Whisk until everything is combined. You may still be left with some small clumps of matcha. If that happens just pour through a strainer into your mug.

If you have any other fun ways for me to use this giant bag of matcha powder I have, comment them below!

Favorite Beauty products

Although I no longer work as a make up artist (I do take the occasional makeup job from time to time) I still take my beauty routine very seriously. I love testing out new products and revamping my collection.

*In my attempts to remove harmful chemicals from my food, cleaning and  beauty products I have found some amazing organic, natural replacements. Some products on the other hand, I have yet to find great natural products that do the job. If any of you have recommendations please leave a comment and let me now what you use!!

Here are some products that I am currently loving:

Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash.  $11.00

Contains:coconut water, sea algae complex and antioxidants.

Description: Removes make up, cleanses, tones and fights against aging.

My sister called me a few days ago asking for a recommendation for a new face wash and I was more than happy to tell her about this one. Pacifica is a brand that I have come to love over the years and their face wash did not disappoint. In fact, It ranks within the top three of my all time favorites. It leaves my face feeling… Clean. That may sound like an obvious statement but I have used plenty of face washes that left my feeling unwashed and greasy others that completely dried out my skin. This one leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. I will definitely be trying more of their skin care as well as their makeup. They now sell pacifica at target which is an extra bonus!!

Acure Organics Brightening Facial Scrub $9.99

Contains:sea kelp, dehydrated lemon peel, french green clay, madonna lily stem cells, chlorella growth factor and argan stem cells.

Description: brightens, exfoliates, detoxifies and stimulates new cell growth. gluten free, paraben free, no fragrance added, phthalate free

I love this brand. It is also one that has now made its way to target shelves and I couldn’t be happier. (I live at Target) I use this scrub 2-3 times a week when I feel like my face needs a deep cleaning. I really can’t say enough about this stuff. I was never really a fan of scrubs because I felt like they were tearing my face off but this one isn’t so harsh. It definitely exfoliates but I don’t feel like my skin is being ripped apart. Once use rinse it off your skin feels cleansed, smooth and awake. My skin feels like it can breath! All good things.

Mario Badescu Rose Water Facial Spray $5-$7.00

contains: rose water, aloe and other herbs

Description: use to set your makeup, soothe skin and give your skin a boost through out the day.

I have used this product for years!!! I use it all day long. I spray my face after washing it, before I put my make up on. I will use it after I apply my makeup to give my skin some extra hydration and in the middle of the day when my skin is looking drab and tired, I spray my face again! It really does everything it claims to do. This spray is so refreshing and anything that smells like roses is a winner in my book. I purchase mine at ulta.

Loreal Curve it Curl Taming Cream $4.99 (now on sale at target for $3.99)

Description: softens, tames and defines curls. helps calm frizz. sulfate free

My sister and I were both blessed with unmanageable, curly hair. It is like a towering mountain of frizz and spiraling madness. My hair pretty much does what it wants and the the frizz level is out of control. I have been through the wringer searching for products that work for me. Ive used high end products, drug store products, products from hair stylists. Some of which worked (usually the really expensive ones) and some that did nothing of what they claimed to do. I saw this product in the clearance section and having just run out of what I had been using I decided to give it a shot. It is amazing! My hair stays bouncy and curly without frizz for hours (not 24 hours like the bottle claims but hey….im not complaining) and if I need my hair to look presentable for a bit longer, I just dampen it a bit and add another pump of the cream. boom! back in business. This stuff also smells amazing. I will be purchasing this again.

Michel Design Works peony hand and body lotion $14.95

Contains: shea butter, aloe, jojoba oil, other herbs and botanical ingredients

I came across this line at Barnes & Noble of all places. I was instantly drawn to it because, if you know me you know, I have an obsession with peonies. I am usually disappointed with peony scented products because they have that fake floral scent. Not this product. I don’t know how they did it but its like they captured the scent straight from the peony bush in my yard and somehow put it into this bottle of lotion. It smells like I went swimming in peonies. This was especially wonderful all winter when I had no flowers in my yard to smell. I would put on this lotion, close my eyes and pretend it was summer again. Okay enough of my weirdness. It is just amazing and your skin will feel like silk so just try it!!!

Shea Moisture peace rose complex sensitive skin creme body wash $8.99

Contains: shea butter, peace rose oil complex, date palm extract and camellia leaf extract

Description: Cleanses without stripping away natural oils. softens skin. helps calm irritated skin.

My skin is super sensitive and prone to dry eczema patches. I have to be extremely careful  what I use on my skin so that it doesn’t get itchy and irritated. I love this body wash. Not only does it smell amazing ( I think we have already established  the fact that I love floral scents) but is incredibly gentle and soft. I have used other products from this brand and I love them all. They also make baby products which I have yet to try but plan on it. If you have used there baby products comment below and let me know what you think!

Thats is all for now. If you have any products that you are crazy about please comment below and tell me about them. I would love to check them out!
